ETO RELEASES ECONOMİC INDİCATORS REPORT FOR OCTOBER

The Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce (ETO) has published the October issue of its monthly Economic Indicators Report, which aims to inform members and the public about the latest economic data.

Economic Indicators Report for October

ETO regularly prepares the Eskişehir Economic Indicators Report to keep its members and the public informed about the latest developments in the economy. The October report includes data on exchange rates, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the Producer Price Index (PPI), monthly export performance, import and export figures, housing sales numbers, the number of new and closed businesses, paid checks, the distribution of checks with insufficient funds, and protest notes. Additionally, the report covers unemployment rates, workforce statistics, monthly building permit numbers issued by Tepebaşı and Odunpazarı municipalities, as well as the distribution of cash loans by public and private banks.

Key Highlights from the October Report

Increase in Exports and Housing Sales

According to the report, Eskişehir’s export volume in October 2024 increased by 14.39% compared to the same month last year, based on data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM). Furthermore, housing sales in Eskişehir saw a significant rise, with 2,308 homes sold in September 2024, up from 1,701 in September 2023.

Business Openings and Closures

The report highlights that the number of business openings in Eskişehir increased in October 2024. According to Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce data, 162 businesses were opened in October 2024, compared to 158 in October 2023. On the other hand, the number of businesses closing decreased, from 63 in October 2023 to 52 in October 2024.

Significant Increase in Bad Checks and Protested Notes

The report also draws attention to a substantial increase in the amount of bad checks and protested promissory notes in Eskişehir. According to the data from the Turkish Banks Association, the total value of bad checks in Eskişehir rose from 21.9 million TL in September 2023 to 97.6 million TL in September 2024, marking a 345.10% increase. Similarly, the amount of protested promissory notes increased dramatically, from 6.2 million TL in September 2023 to 51.8 million TL in September 2024, reflecting a 733.53% rise.
