Metin Güler, the President of the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce (ETO), warned that if permission is granted for the planned Regional Products Festival in Odunpazarı, it could harm local tradespeople and merchants trying to conduct business during the holiday season. He urged the authorities to reconsider this initiative.
In a statement regarding the festival, which he believes could lead to the detriment of the city's traders and shopkeepers, Güler expressed concern over yet another challenge facing local commerce. He emphasized that they would not allow harm to befall merchants and traders who are attempting to work during the holiday season.
He lamented that the festival would involve the sale of products brought in from outside the city through tents, exploiting Eskişehir's sensitivities. “We find ourselves facing yet another arbitrary application that will cause hardship for Eskişehir’s tradespeople and merchants. This festival, which uses the guise of local products to exploit the city's sensitivities, cannot go unchallenged by the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce,” he stated.
Traders and merchants must not suffer losses
Güler insisted that authorities should not permit tent sales under the pretext of a festival, to protect local tradespeople from being adversely affected. “We will not allow the traders and merchants who live in this city, pay their taxes here, and prepare to conduct business before the holiday to be disadvantaged. I warn the authorities: if you permit this initiative disguised as a festival, you are facilitating harm to the city's merchants and shopkeepers. Additionally, such an application allows for the exploitation of the concerns that Eskişehir holds dear. It is essential to reverse this misguided practice to ensure that our traders and merchants, who already operate under difficult conditions, do not suffer further losses. I once again caution all elected or appointed officials who allow the sale of products of dubious origin that directly threaten public health.”
