ETO President Metin Güler announced that they have initiated efforts at TOBB to prevent the unfair competition caused by chain markets that sell everything from A to Z, and that they will bring the issue to the ministry level.
In a statement regarding the unfair competition caused by chain markets, ETO President Metin Güler noted that chain markets, established for food sales, have expanded their operations beyond their intended scope, becoming sales points for every product. He pointed out that chain markets are almost on every corner, continuing to sell electronic goods, furniture, stationery, health products, white goods, and household items, thus causing unfair competition.
If Unfair Competition is Not Prevented, Both Merchants and Citizens Will Suffer
Güler emphasized that sales in areas like furniture, electronics, and health products should be conducted by specialists, and post-sale support should be provided. He mentioned that consumers, who should receive post-sale support, are also being victimized due to chain markets. Güler asserted that there should be no permission for the sale of products other than food and cleaning supplies in chain markets, warning that if the ongoing unfair competition is not prevented, both merchants and citizens will continue to face problems.
Initiatives Launched at TOBB to Prevent Competitive Inequality
Highlighting that chain markets operate wherever they want and sell every product, Güler stated that this has led to losses for local brands and merchants in many sectors. He expressed the need to put an end to this competitive inequality. As Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce, Güler mentioned that they have initiated efforts at the Turkey Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) to prevent unfair competition, requesting ministry-level work to address the unfair competition caused by chain markets.
