PRIVATE BANKS MUST SUPPORT TRADERS MORE THAN EVER

In the August assembly meeting, ETO President Metin Güler emphasized the urgent need for increased support for traders and highlighted the necessity for credit, stating that private banks, like public banks, should step up during these challenging times.

The August ordinary assembly meeting of the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce was held on August 29 at the Mustafa Çekiç Assembly Hall. The meeting began with an opening speech by Assembly President Halil İbrahim Ara, followed by a vote on agenda items. In his address, ETO President Metin Güler shared information about the events planned for the 130th anniversary of the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce. He noted that the chamber is one of the oldest economic institutions in Turkey, dating back to the Ottoman Empire, and stated that they plan to celebrate this milestone with a series of events fitting for such a historic organization. Güler announced that they will kick off the celebrations with a bicycle tour themed “In Commemoration of the Liberation,” referencing the 101st anniversary of Eskişehir's liberation from enemy occupation on September 2.

A Series of Events for the 130th Anniversary

Güler mentioned that a variety of events are planned for the 130th anniversary, but they have postponed the Yazılıkaya and Ayazini programs due to higher than normal seasonal temperatures. He also revealed plans for a trip to Gallipoli with assembly members in September, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Republic. Additionally, he announced that they are preparing a prestige publication and hosting an exhibition as part of the anniversary celebrations. Güler noted that the latest issue of the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce Magazine has been specifically compiled for the 130th year, featuring articles from prominent figures, including Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.

Traders Need Access to Credit Under Favorable Conditions

Discussing the national economy and the challenges faced by traders, ETO President Güler pointed out that this is a critical time requiring enhanced support for traders, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs. He stressed the need for favorable and long-term credit to keep the wheels of trade and industry turning, emphasizing the importance of private banks providing credit support similar to that of public banks. Güler highlighted that traders and manufacturers are all in the same boat, calling on all private banks to contribute more than ever to support traders, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs.

In closing, Güler commemorated the 30th of August Victory Day and the 101st anniversary of Eskişehir’s liberation from enemy occupation, paying homage to the founder of the Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as well as all martyrs and veterans.
