During ETO's July regular assembly meeting, President Metin Güler emphasized that the rising corporate tax is making it harder for manufacturers with small profit margins to compete globally.
The Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce (ETO) held its July regular assembly meeting, starting with a speech by Assembly Vice President Atilla Sabahcı in the Mustafa Çekiç Assembly Hall, where agenda items were discussed and resolved. A decision was made regarding the prices of bread produced by local firms, setting the price of 200-gram bread at 7 TL and 230-gram bread at 8 TL. In his opening remarks, ETO President Metin Güler expressed condolences for the late Halil Nafız Ara, father of Assembly President Halil İbrahim Ara, and provided assembly members with information about the activities carried out by the chamber in July.
The North Ring Road: A Chronic Problem for Eskişehir
Güler stated that he had visited members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly to convey Eskişehir’s priorities and the requests of its members. He stressed that the issue of the North Ring Road, which has become a chronic problem for Eskişehir, needs to be resolved as soon as possible. He highlighted the necessity of creating new land to prevent rising housing prices in the city and mentioned the challenges faced by traders, such as difficulty accessing credit, a decrease in the number of qualified personnel, the need for a cap on rent increases, and the request for a registry amnesty.
Fuel Price Increases Also Raise Freight Costs
Discussing the country’s economy, ETO President Metin Güler pointed out that the increase in corporate taxes will burden manufacturers who are trying to survive on small profit margins and will push them one step back in global competition. He noted that rising special consumption tax (ÖTV) rates on fuel affect both producers and citizens, highlighting that the increase in fuel prices also raises freight costs, which inevitably impacts consumers and negatively affects inflation. Güler emphasized that Turkey is a strong country and can easily rise to higher ranks in global standings when it activates its potential. He also mentioned that ETO is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year and has planned a series of programs and activities in honor of this milestone.
