DISCOUNTS SHOULD BE APPLIED TO COMPANIES PAYING PUBLIC DEBTS ON TIME

In the January regular assembly meeting, ETO President Metin Güler emphasized that the election agenda should not overshadow the economy and expressed expectations for discounts for traders and industrialists who consistently meet their public payment obligations.

The Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce held its January assembly meeting, starting with an opening speech by Assembly President Halil İbrahim Ara. Anadolu University Rector Prof. Dr. Fuat Erdal attended as a guest and provided information on the upcoming Central Anatolia Career Fair (İKAF 23), co-hosted by Anadolu University and the Eskişehir Governor’s Office. ETO President Metin Güler expressed satisfaction with the participation of 19 universities in the fair, stating that the event will strengthen Eskişehir’s vision in trade fairs. Güler noted that ETO’s companies, Eskişehir Fair Congress Center and ETO-METSEM, will also participate in the event.

The Economy Should Not Be Overshadowed by the Election Agenda

ETO President Metin Güler noted that the country’s agenda is dominated by the parliamentary and presidential elections, with the timeline becoming clearer. While wishing for positive outcomes, he voiced concerns within the business community that the election focus might overshadow the economy. He emphasized that, given economic risks such as inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, and trade deficits, economic issues should not be sidelined.

Banks Should Support Traders More During This Period

Güler noted that last year’s high inflation has led to increased capital needs for companies, resulting in financing challenges. He shared complaints from members about difficulties accessing credit, with banks remaining hesitant to lend. Stressing that banks should provide more support to traders during this time, Güler highlighted that increased lending could stimulate the economy, investments, and employment.

Housing Campaign Should Be Revised

Reiterating the construction sector's demands, Güler mentioned that, due to the lack of inflation accounting, construction firms are unable to reflect rising costs on their invoices. This situation has hindered small-scale contractors from benefiting from the recently announced housing package. He suggested that the requirement for contractors to deposit 5% of the appraisal value should be adjusted to 5% of the loan amount to make the campaign more accessible.

Discounts Should Be Offered to Traders Who Pay Public Debts on Time

Regarding the recent public debt restructuring plan, Güler expressed support but emphasized that incentives should also be provided to businesses that consistently pay taxes and fulfill obligations on time. He suggested that companies making timely payments should be rewarded with discounts to encourage compliance and prevent frustration among traders and industrialists who might otherwise wonder why they adhere to prompt payments.
