Speaking at the November regular assembly meeting, ETO President Metin Güler stated that reducing inflation should be the top priority for 2023.
The Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce held its November regular assembly meeting, beginning with an opening address by Assembly President Halil İbrahim Ara, during which agenda items were resolved. ETO Assembly Member Mustafa Güneş shared that meetings held in the Netherlands with firms in the IT and software sector as part of the ESİYAK (Eskişehir Innovation, Software, and R&D Clustering) Project were highly productive. He thanked ETO President Metin Güler for leading the project, which provides opportunities for companies to expand internationally with support from the Ministry of Trade.
Minimum Wage Should Increase, but Employer Burden Must Be Reduced
ETO President Metin Güler also discussed ETO activities and economic issues, addressing the upcoming minimum wage increase. He noted that various figures are being discussed for the minimum wage, and he hopes for an amount that satisfies both employers and employees. While acknowledging that a wage increase is inevitable and that all employers want to improve their employees' welfare, Güler emphasized the need to reduce the burden of premiums and taxes on employers.
Inflation Accounting Essential for Businesses
Güler highlighted that rather than solely raising the minimum wage, it is essential to increase purchasing power. He stressed that reducing inflation must be the top agenda item for the coming year and suggested designating 2023 as the year to fight inflation. He noted that achieving price stability would benefit both production and consumption, as high inflation pressures both consumers and producers. Güler stated that inflation accounting will be necessary to ensure that merchants and industrialists can operate sustainably, warning that without it, business profits may remain only on paper.
