Ethiopia's Ambassador to Ankara, Adem Mohammed Mahmud, visited the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce (ETO) to discuss steps for strengthening trade between Eskişehir and Ethiopia.
Ambassador Adem Mohammed Mahmud, accompanied by Ethiopian Chargé d'Affaires Mulie Tarekegn Edlie and Counselor Menbere Besir Achewe, met with ETO Assembly President Halil İbrahim Ara, Vice President Özgür Alp, and board members on Tuesday, November 29. During the meeting, ETO Vice President Özgür Alp highlighted Eskişehir's excellent logistics, making it one of Turkey's most accessible cities, with a continually developing economy.
Eskişehir’s Trade and Industry Potential is Growing
Alp emphasized that Eskişehir hosts Turkey's second-largest Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) and is notable for its advanced technology manufacturing capabilities. While Turkey's average technology-based exports are around 4%, Eskişehir’s rate stands at approximately 15%. Alp noted that Eskişehir’s potential could contribute to developing trade relations with Ethiopia. He also thanked ETO Assembly Member Neşet Gürsoy for inviting Ambassador Mahmud to Eskişehir.
Aiming to Translate Brotherhood into Economic Cooperation
Ambassador Adem Mohammed Mahmud stated that Turkey and Ethiopia have shared over a century of friendly relations, underpinned by strong brotherhood ties. He noted that their visit to ETO aimed to extend these ties into economic cooperation, expressing that trade between the countries could be enhanced by organizing economic events, fairs, and business meetings in Eskişehir and Ethiopia. Mahmud emphasized that Ethiopia, with its young population, has substantial potential for growth, making the development of mutual trade very feasible.
