The Eskişehir EU Information Center, operating under ETO, organized a cycling tour titled "Pedaling for the Environment and Climate" in collaboration with the Tepebaşı Municipality and with support from the EU Delegation to Turkey. ETO President Metin Güler, Assembly President Halil İbrahim Ara, board members, and Tepebaşı Deputy Mayor Suat Yalnızoğlu kicked off the tour.
Climate Change Policies Also Affect the Economy
Speaking at the start of the cycling tour, ETO President Metin Güler emphasized that climate change and the Green Deal are not only climate policies but also part of an economic transformation program. He noted that climate change policies impact trade policies as well, and the cycling tour aimed to raise awareness about climate change.
As a Municipality, We Work to Prevent Environmental Pollution
Tepebaşı Deputy Mayor Suat Yalnızoğlu mentioned that they previously collaborated with the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce on the Guest Pedal Project, which received an award. He stated that Tepebaşı Municipality has implemented numerous projects to prevent environmental pollution and will continue to set an example with their environmental efforts. Following the speeches, the tour commenced, with cycling groups and associations pedaling along a 7.7 km route through the city center. The tour, which saw the participation of 250 people, highlighted clean energy and the fight against climate change.
What is Climate Diplomacy Week?
Campaigns and events held during the European Union Climate Diplomacy Week provide significant regional contributions to combating climate change. Activities such as beach clean-ups, conferences, seminars, cycling tours, and tree planting take place in 19 cities with EU Information Centers.
In 2020, the European Union was the world's largest donor of climate finance, providing nearly $28 billion in humanitarian support. For the 2022 Climate Diplomacy Week, themes include energy savings, energy efficiency, and the acceleration of renewable energy sources.
