The Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce (ETO) has added another local delicacy to its registered products, securing a geographical indication for the Eskişehir Simidi (bagel).
ETO continues to protect Eskişehir’s unique flavors and ensure the quality of products closely associated with the city. Following ETO’s application, the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office officially registered Eskişehir Simidi. This geographical indication was granted to the city based on an application submitted by ETO on December 23, 2019.
Five Local Products Registered in Five Years
ETO has accelerated efforts in recent years to register local products and protect their names and quality. In 2012, ETO obtained a geographical indication for Eskişehir Çibörek. Over the past five years, it has secured indications for Eskişehir Met Helvası, Sivrihisar İncili Küpe, Sivrihisar Cebesi, Sorkun Pottery, and now Eskişehir Simidi, bringing the total number of ETO-registered products to six.
Commitment to Preserving Eskişehir’s Iconic Products
ETO President Metin Güler expressed pride in securing a geographical indication for another product closely associated with the city. He emphasized that ETO prioritizes protecting Eskişehir’s unique products and securing their names and legacies, increasing the city’s geographical indications over the past five years.
With Eskişehir Simidi’s recent registration, the total number of geographically indicated products in Eskişehir has reached 11. Güler added that ETO would continue efforts to preserve every value identified with Eskişehir, contributing to the city’s economy and cultural heritage.
