ETO President Metin Güler expressed concerns over the continuing struggle of pastry, confectionery, and bakery producers in Eskişehir to obtain locally produced sugar, warning that if the issue persists, many producers are considering halting production.
President Güler stated that local producers have been struggling for months to access sugar produced at the Kazım Taşkent Eskişehir Sugar Factory. He emphasized the urgency of resolving the issue, as many producers are now contemplating stopping production due to the lack of access. Güler remarked, “It’s difficult to understand why producers in Eskişehir cannot access sugar made in their own city. Our members report that instead of paying half the cost, they are forced to pay double, buying sugar from markets or sourcing it from outside the city.”
Producers Warn of Production Halt if Sugar Supply Issue Remains Unresolved
Güler noted the unreasonable situation where Eskişehir-based firms, who have access to locally produced sugar at a lower price, are forced to pay inflated prices. “Our members are facing expenses they cannot bear, and passing on these increased costs to consumers is not feasible. Pastry, confectionery, and bakery producers are warning that they cannot continue production under these circumstances. They’re absolutely justified in their frustration—how can firms that have relied on Eskişehir-produced sugar for years suddenly be unable to access it?”
