The Eskişehir EU Information Center organized an event simulating the European Parliament, where topics such as “Women’s Rights, Combating Violence Against Women, and Inequality” were thoroughly evaluated.
As part of the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women," the Eskişehir EU Information Center, operating under the ETO, held an informative event titled “EU Simulation – Women’s Rights, Combating Violence Against Women, Inequality.” The event was organized in collaboration with the TOBB Eskişehir Women Entrepreneurs Council and the Eskişehir European Union Association. During the event, students and participants simulated discussions on EU Women's Rights, Combatting Violence Against Women, and Inequality from a European Union perspective. In his opening speech, Gökhan Çobansoy, Coordinator of the Eskişehir EU Information Center, stated that participants had the opportunity to closely experience and learn about the EU's mechanisms for working and decision-making on these critical issues.
Raising Awareness About Women's Rights
Elif Gürkaynak, President of the TOBB Eskişehir Women Entrepreneurs Council, emphasized the importance of economically empowering women and shared efforts to increase the number of women entrepreneurs and support their participation in economic life. Dr. Erhan Akdemir, President of the European Union Association, mentioned that one of the most effective methods in combating violence against women is to enhance visibility through public awareness initiatives such as education, seminars, and similar activities. He noted that the EU simulation plays a significant role in this context, expressing the need for more than just situation assessments to address the issues.
Youth Learned About Women's Rights Practically
Participants discussed the EU's global role in gender equality and local government implementations in combating violence against women, including the funding of these initiatives by member states or the EU. The discussions also compared violence against women rates in candidate countries for EU membership. Participants representing the European Parliament gained practical insights into the EU experience. They attempted to create a resolution text aligned with the EU’s objectives by applying their ideas on Women's Rights, Combating Violence Against Women, and Inequality during the simulation. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants.
