Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce (ETO) President Metin Güler expressed his disappointment about the expected new restrictions in Eskişehir, which is categorized as a high-risk area for Covid-19. He highlighted that the rising cases in the city are impacting trade and social life, particularly affecting members of the hospitality sector.
Reflecting on the recent Cabinet decisions for pandemic control, Güler noted the efforts ETO has made to combat the spread of Covid-19 throughout the city. He stated, “For over a year, our service sector has endured difficult times. To prevent additional restrictions on our hospitality industry, we collaborated with the Provincial Health Directorate to host awareness seminars focused on implementing preventive measures in workplaces. We have continuously emphasized the need for a unified effort to curb the virus and warned that our city’s service sector cannot withstand another shutdown.”
Preventive Efforts to Preserve Gains
Güler also reminded attendees of ETO’s recent "Continue to Work with Health" campaign, designed to support the continuation of both business and social activities safely. “We launched the campaign with the slogan 'Don’t Stop Life,' using billboards and distributing branded masks to various businesses to underscore the importance of precautions. Unfortunately, despite our efforts and multiple awareness initiatives, Eskişehir is among 58 provinces in the red category. As a result, weekend restrictions will be reintroduced, leading to a temporary halt in social and economic activities,” Güler explained.
He further conveyed his sympathy for the affected businesses, saying, “We feel for our members in the service sector and others whose operations will again be interrupted despite their diligent adherence to every precaution. We are saddened to see our members’ hard work jeopardized by the pandemic despite all the preventive measures they’ve taken.”
