ETO members involved in furniture production and sales in Eskişehir expressed that companies have been negatively affected by certain decisions made by Consumer Arbitration Committees and emphasized that expert panels should be formed by professionals specialized in the relevant fields.
ETO members producing and selling furniture in Eskişehir gathered to voice their complaints regarding decisions made by the Consumer Arbitration Committees. The meeting at ETO was attended by Eskişehir Provincial Trade Director Cemil Kürkçü, Tepebaşı Consumer Arbitration Committee Chairman Azer Baycan, rapporteurs from the Odunpazarı and Provincial Consumer Arbitration Committees, and furniture manufacturers and sellers. ETO President Metin Güler, speaking at the meeting, highlighted that numerous complaints and demands have been received from various sectors regarding recent decisions made by consumer arbitration committees. Güler emphasized that while protecting consumer rights is essential, the rights of manufacturers and companies must also be considered. He added that the issues raised in the meeting would be conveyed by ETO to the relevant ministries through TOBB, reaffirming their continued support for their members.
Some want to return furniture after months of use
ETO members at the meeting pointed out that consumer rights are being exploited by malicious individuals, stressing that the expert panels at the relevant arbitration committees should consist of specialists with a deep understanding of the subject. They highlighted that some decisions by consumer courts have led to unfair treatment, noting cases where furniture used for extended periods is returned just days before the legal return period ends with the excuse "I am not satisfied," or custom-made furniture is returned with claims like "I don’t like this color." They argued that such practices should not be allowed. ETO members also emphasized the need for expert lists to be updated and conveyed their concerns and demands to Eskişehir Provincial Trade Director Cemil Kürkçü and Tepebaşı Consumer Arbitration Committee Chairman Azer Baycan.
